An Expose on Wing Chun Kung Fu

An Excerpt from “Wing Chun Manual”

Parallel Single arm chi Sao is a stationary drilled practiced from a neutral stance with a partner.

Jee Shin Wing Chun Parallel Arm Chi Sao employs one moving arm and one static arm to develops contact reflexes.

Other concepts developed are sensitivity, sticking and forward intention with Fuk Sao, Tan Sao, and Bon Sao.

Terminology for the Qi Sao movements are:

  • Fuk Sao – bridge on arm
  • Tan Sao – palm up block
  • Bon Sao – wing arm
  • Jut Sao – jerk hand or pinning hand
  • Biu Choi – thrusting punch
  • Jeung – palm strike

Sifu Linda:

Linda explains how the drill trains Tan Sao, Fuk Sao, Jut Sao or Gum Sao and Bon Sao.

The drill also trains action and reaction, correct position of the arms, sticking and independent movement of limbs.

This Wing Chun drill teaches us to use Tan Sao to create openings for attack in the upper gate.

We also learn to redirect the force coming in under the arm from Tan Sao, into the lower gate.

Using Jut Sao or Gum Sao, we can also redirect attacks coming over the arm in the upper gate using Bon Sao.

This drill develops the concepts of sensitivity in conditioning our reflexes, strategy, close range distance for combat.

Wing Chun straight line attack, to attack when we control the centre, to yield and not fight force against force,

Chi Sao drills create openings to attack with forward intention through gaps in our opponent’s defenses.

This is the foundation of double arm Qi Sao and happens in a static position.

Using one arm simplifies the drill which allows all this information to be programmed into the arms and mind.

This wing chun training uplifts our mind, body coordination while training conditional reflexes to an action, reaction.

This is the first stage to Double arm Qi Sao.

Correct position of the arms is vital for attack and defence.
